PFLAG (Parents, Families, & Friends of Lesbians and Gays) is a national, non-profit organization. The organization aims to educate, advocate, and provide support for both LGBTQ members as well as their families, friends and allies. There are more than 350 communities across the United States and abroad that run meetings and provide support for their community. Human Rights Campaign The Human Rights Campaign (HRC) is the largest civil rights organization working for LGBTQ rights. HRC works to achieve equality for all people so that LGBTQ people do not find themselves without the privileges and basic human rights that are given to the straight, cis!gendered population. HRC does not just work to increase understanding and adoption of LGBTQ-inclusive polices and practices in the United States but globally as well. Equality Illinois Equality Illinois is an organization that fights to secure, protect, and defend equal rights for LGBTQ people in Illinois. They continue to lobby for anti-discriminatory, anti-violent, marriage equality, job security and safe school practices in the state. They are always looking for volunteers to help secure these essential needs within the LGBTQ community. Center on Halsted
Center on Halsted is a comprehensive community center dedicated to the needs of LGBTQ people in the Chicagoland area. The center is open every day from 8am to 9pm and provides education and victim advocacy, youth programs, senior programs, community and cultural events, HIV/AIDS and STD health services, legal help and mental health counseling. They regularly partner with smaller LGBTQ non-profit organizations as well to provide even further services. If you are ever in the Chicagoland area, this is a great place to check out.
